New Heart Christian Music Festival

Special Announcement: After careful consideration regarding the health and safety of everyone attending this event, we have made the decision to cancel the Christian Music Festival this year.

Location

New Heart Recital Hall (10815 Fallstone Road, Houston, TX 77099)

Purpose

The New Heart Christian Music Festival is designed to promote the performance and appreciation of Christian music in the community, as well as to support young musicians in their musical development through a positive performance experience.

Festival Competition Schedule

9:00am–1:00pm Solo Competition (competition order will publish on Wednesday, March 18, 2020)

3:00pm Christian Music Festival Winners Concert & Award Ceremony

* Winners will be announced at 3pm and perform in the Winners Concert

**Please note that we are aware of the Covid-19 situation. In the event that school is cancelled in the Houston and/or surrounding areas, we will change the event from public to private auditions and will notify you accordingly. In this occurrence, rather than having a live "Winners' Concert," the Christian Music Festival winners' programs will be available for viewing on our website.

Eligibility

All participants must be K-12 students. Open to all solo instruments and vocalist. Solo only.

Music Requirement

One hymn (English lyrics), Christian music arrangement, or classical sacred music not to exceed 3 minutes in length, any performance that exceeds 3 minutes may be stopped at the judges' discretion.

New Heart reserves the right for music approval.

*** Accompaniment is not required for the competition but preferred, we do not provide accompanist.

Award Categories

Participant: Festival souvenir pin & Certificate

Winners: Medal; Scholarship prize (see below); performing in the Winners concert & featured on New Heart website.

**** All participants will receive the critique sheet from the judges.

Division & Scholarship Prizes

3 Winners will be chosen for each division:

(A)   Primary Elementary (K - Grade 2) ------------ $50/$30/$20

(B)   Intermediate Elementary (Grade 3 - 5) ------- $75/$40/$20

(C)   Middle School (Grades 6 - 8) ------------------ $100/$50/$20

(D)   High School (Grades 9 -12) --------------------$150/$75/$20

Rating Criteria

Participants will be judged according to musical interpretation, expression, intonation, rhythm, sound quality and stage presentation.

Fee

$20 per entry, non-refundable.
